Not in CA....What a Pisser!

Tried to place an order today with Cheaper than Dirt. I wanted to buy a collapsable stock for a rifle. Sorry, Illegal In California! Man, I'm so tired of this crap! As if a pistol grip, or a shorty stock makes a gun so deadly. I know their rationalization is the concealability factor, but this is just the slippery slope in my opinion. Don't ask why I still live here. My entire Family lives in this State.

I'd call them adjustable stocks really. I have one on my DPMS in .308 which I just measured. It goes from 6 3/4" on the lowest adjustment up to 10 1/2" on the longest. Not really much difference on the overall size of the rifle and therefore concealability. I saw an interview the other day on one of the talking heads shows. He was interviewing a woman about legislation her group was trying to get passed to infringe on the 2nd. She said it would ban flash supressors, bayonets, "high cap" mags, barrel shrouds etc. The head asked her what a barrel shroud did and she couldn't answer the question. He wouldn't let her skirt around it either. I had a laugh. I think it was neil cavuto perhaps.

I'm sure I'll be accused of being/sounding like the anti-gun nuts, but really, why do you need that? Unless you're planning house-to-house urban combat, what is wrong with a normal stock? I have no use for gun control, but California's pansy-ass firearms legislation is quite livable. You can even carry loaded with a CCW in rural counties.

I wonder what one could find on http://www.gunbroker.com/?

Yeah, the pistol grip thing is asinine and pretty hard to figure out.

How about when you buy a brand new hi-cap 9mm pistol, and instead of receiving two new 16-round magazines like folks in practically every other state do, you receive two lovely 10-rounders. Handicapped right from the start.

Unfortunately it's next to impossible to obtain a CCW in this "may issue" state, depending on the county in which one lives. :thumpdown

HMGH7, who lives in/near L.A. County, has one. Color me impressed.

The counties which are still livable (meaning less than 200,000 people generally) are virtual "shall issue" counties. LA, SF, Sacramento, yeah, don't bet on it unless you're a politician or celebrity. I lived in Sacramento County when the police chief of a small town, Isleton, was issuing CCWs as "shall issue" to anyone in Sacramento County, over the objections of the corrupt Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. The law was written, then, in such a way which permitted him to do it.

There's gotta be an incredibly good reason he was able to get one. Maybe he bribed Lee Baca? Just kidding HMGH7. ;-)

My county is unfortunately not one of these. Closer to a million people in the county, and from what I've researched, our particular sheriff does his absolute best to not give out a single CCW permit (last I checked, there were less than 300 permits issued, total). Unless, of course, you're part of his clique/in-group. :bear_angry:

The question is not framed correctly....... what would be more apporiate is .. why dose gubbermint feel the need to restrict my abilty to own this particular item??

The stock in of itsef is NOTHING ........it is the PRECENDENT that is EVERYTHING ...if you say no to that ...... then you can say no to things that are SIMILAR to that .....which will lead to restrictions on those....and you get the ball rolling.

call it the "butterfly affect" on gun ownership....it starts out small and finishes with a virtual ban on anything.

Hey, I'm not into boats or jet skis, or custom cars. Why shouldn't I be able to customize my gun the way I want? No, I don't NEED it necessarily, but does anyone NEED most of the stuff they spend their money on? Do we all NEED Giant plasma tv's? Like I said, it's just the slippery slope in motion. Just think, with all the global warming stuff, what if they started limiting everyone to 19 inch tv's, or one computer per household, etc. In Sacramento County, they are already having "No burn days", where you can't burn wood in a fireplace. They want everyone to put the squiggly bulbs in their houses, don't water your lawns at this time, or on these days. Where does all of this end? Brave New World?

Thanks for finding that Toxa. We really need to ban those "shoulder things that go up". I usually have the heads on in the background when I get home from work to hear stuff like this and see what they're feeding "J6P" today.

William Morgan, I like my adjustable stock because I can easily set it to the proper adjustment for my arm length without spending a ton of money to have custom work done and I agree with what 90% said.

Please tell me you are kidding about that ....... PLEASE..

WTF........I CANT BURN WOOD IN MY DAM FIREPLACE?? ARE YOU FRICKEN CRAZY!!!!!

Is this the same part of Commiefornia that was trying to pass that bill where people have to put some type of RFID chip on the thermostat so some goon can regulate the temperature in your home from the dam street??

What in the world are we coming to??

Luckily, I live in El Dorado County, where EVERYONE has wood burning stoves. Kind of hard to legislate that nonsense here. Also, alot more gun friendly out here, than in the city.

Storage space.

Gun safes are more expensive by volume. I just bought an underfolder Scary Looking Rifle that is about a foot shorter with the stock folded under. I can fit it in my round door jewelry safe that is otherwise only good for handguns.

My gun is in a $200 TL-30 security safe instead of a $1000 sheetmetal and drywall fire safe because it has an underfolder stock.

Having had the opportunity to try the collapsed stock/pistol grip enabled "shooting from the hip" technique, I can testify that it was as ineffective as could be expected. It was like shooting an awkward oversized handgun. It was less comfortable than a non-pistol grip and I had to walk my shots on target from less than 10 feet away. I can't picture a serious situation where I would opt for the stock to be folded down.

Re: Not in CA....What a Pisser!

HOLY SMOKES(no pun intended).

That is absolutley out of control ........

I wonder what the hell I would do ........if some town prick official actually rang my door bell to "give me a warning" about buring MY WOOD on the wrong day of the week ...

I know it is not the person's fault who is ringing my bell But sweet mother mary I dont think I could bite my tougne the cussing out I would put on him would be one for the ages I would make sure it....I can barley hold back when the Fire department comes by to make a "safety inspection" aka try and drum up money for the city.

This has got to be the HEIGHT OF INSANITY.

I am NOT defending gun control of any form. I am merely pointing out that wanting to leave California over not being able to have a "toy" is not good reason.

90% of California's firearms laws are patently unconstitutional.

I'm not going to leave Ca. over this one issue. I stated a few other things that have me peeved, and believe me, I've left off a laundry list of reasons to seek shelter elsewhere! Maybe someday.
